Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, features 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
