Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
