Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
