Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries aside from the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
